Plans for the Ripon Senior Center call for an outdoor dining area on the southeast corner of the existing facility.

A big piece of this rehabilitation project is the shade structure for the estimated 1,300 square foot space on the southeast corner of the existing facility at 433 S. Wilma Ave.

On Tuesday, the Ripon City Council will look to move forward on that by approving the purchase of one Landmark Shade Shelter through Park Planet.

“For the past several years, the City of Ripon has been allocating our yearly allotment of Community Development Block Grant funds towards a façade improvement for the Senior Center,” said Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart in his staff report for the 6 p.m. open session in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

The cost is $34,677 to be paid entirely through CDBG., which is one of the longest-running programs of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

According to the staff report, the proposed shade structure will also feature light fixtures and ceiling fans as well as a surrounding stucco privacy wall.

The existing landscaping in the project area would be removed.

A new door opening will be converted from existing windows from within the facility to provide access to the newly constructed outdoor dining area.

Additional amenities would include re-landscaping of the entire front and side of the Ripon Senior Center along with rehabilitating and updating the front building façade, modifying the existing parapet roof, removing of the existing stone veneer of the front office portion while replacing them with wood plank sidings.
