While exposing Yuga Aoyama as the traitor in My Hero Academia was a surprise, fans were equally shocked by the reveal of Invisible Girl's face.

After playing a fairly minor role for most of the series, My Hero Academia’s Invisible Girl aka Toru Hagakure has been an essential element of the manga's storyline over the last few issues. Much of that attention was initially focused on whether she was the long assumed U.A. High School traitor. But after strongly hinting to fans that Toru was indeed the traitor, the manga executed a classic “bait and switch” storyline revealing that the true traitor to many in their midst was none other than Yuga Aoyama.

At that point, it seemed that Toru’s claim to fame was about to be extinguished, and she was on her way back to obscurity as a secondary character. But what happened next put her right back into the center of the My Hero Academia discussion. When confronted by Deku about his duplicity, Aoyama lashes out, targeting Deku with a navel laser blast. Toru, who is standing beside Deku, intercepts the blast using her light refracting abilities to redirect it away. While her defensive move is nothing particularly special — and what fans have come to expect of members on Class 1A — what wasn’t expected was that in redirected the blast, the light refracts in such a way to partially reveal Toru’s face.

This is the first time since Invisible Girl was first introduced 330 chapters earlier in the manga that fans were able to catch a glimpse, however incomplete, of what Toru looks like. Needless to say, fans were not  shy about letting their emotions in the reveal stay hidden and transparent.

Not all fans were impressed, however, especially considering the fact that reveal comes shortly after the fact that Aoyama is the traitor. That is, making two big reveals at the same time takes away the impact of both.

For one fan, the reveal seemed rather anti-climactic and another ploy by the manga’s author Kohei Horikoshi to overcome the reactions that Toru was not the traitor although all signs had suggested she was. To be sure, for most of the manga's run, it was commonly assumed that the traitor was Toru. According to this assumption, the fact that she was invisible, and training in ways to enhance what she could do with her invisibility, made her the perfect All for One minion. At any given moment, who could tell where she was?

Disappointed Toru Hagakure isn't the UA traitor. Felt like she was intentionally left undeveloped in order to have this bait and switch traitor reveal. Her being a traitor would have added depth. Now she is and continues to be a blank slate.

Nevertheless, the majority of My Hero Academia expressed general excitement and happiness at the of Toru's face. Indeed as one fan stated, the reveal got him interested again in the manga.

Naturally, with her face finally being revealed, the next question is will fans be able to see it again, perhaps in a more fuller and clearer image. Judging from all the support and excite that the glimpse of her face has generated, showing more of Toru Hagakure's Invisible Girl would certainly increase the popularity of My Hero Academia.
