In times of rising energy and production costs, more cost-effective solutions are desperately sought, especially in greenhouse cultivation. Several years ago, the specialized company Rite-Hite Ltd, based in Volkmarsen, Germany, developed a high-tech industrial fan. "The ingenious ventilation system will not only improve the indoor climate and thus the conditions in the glasshouse but also reduce the ultimate energy consumption significantly", they say.

The HVLS fans move large volumes of air at low speeds, resulting in efficient air circulation in the building. The process has so far been used mainly in industrial buildings and is particularly suitable in the fruit sector, for example, for the ventilation of storage and production areas, sales areas, and greenhouses, the company describes. "We have used the fans in greenhouses and food warehouses, and their use has significantly improved the indoor climate."

Cool in summer, warm in winter With optimum low speed and high air volume, HVLS industrial fans from Rite-Hite move large volumes of air over wide areas in a cost-saving manner. Air is drawn in above the fan and conically conveyed down to the shop floor. "In addition, HVLS fans provide year-round benefits. This is because they provide active cooling in the summer and can be used in the winter for destratification, a process that mixes warm air from the ceiling with cooler air on the floor. This is particularly advantageous in greenhouse systems, where planting and harvesting are now done increasingly year-round," says Rite-Hite.

Right: The fans are already being used successfully in Dutch cucumber greenhouses.

Year-round performance and energy-saving Last but not least, the process meets the requirements of the modern user, for example, in terms of user-friendliness. "With the Fan Commander's touch-screen control panel, the user can optimize the year-round performance of Rite-Hite HVLS fans in a building, maximizing energy savings and comfort."
