FPL electric bills set to go up in the new year | WTVX

FPL bills are expected to go up around $20 in January, due to various rate increases, some caused by the cost of natural gas going up.

It's hard to say exactly how much an individual power bill will rise in the New Year; it comes down to how large a space is, how much power is used, what energy saving measures are taken and so on.

But there are penny-pinching measure around the house to make sure bills aren't too different from 2021 to 2022.

A Consumer Reports editor recommends:

"If you have ceiling fans, just switch the direction of the fans. There's usually a switch on the body to do that. And that will actually push warm air from the ceiling down to the floor. It's sort of an easy little hack to lower your heating costs," said Danial Wroclaski from Consumer Reports.

Costs are expected to continue to rise with power bills in Florida as FPL continues its four year plan to add more ways of using clean energy and improving infrastructure. It's estimated that bills will be higher by 18% by 2025.
